10 Anti-nutrients Found In Your Vegan / Vegitarian Diet

As a proponent of the carnivore diet, I have learned that many of our vegetables contain anti-nutrients that naturally inhibit the absorption of what is necessary for our well being. It is now 2020 and all the commercials, celebrities, magazines, and main stream media are promoting only a diet that is rich in vegetables and fruits as healthy alternatives to meat.

Besides the fact that most of these vegetables and fruits are heavy in starches, sugars and undigestible fiber, with the potentiality of not only bloating our bellies but scraping away at the intestines, thus causing inflammation of within the gut.

Fruits and vegetables are considered healthy because they contain all the colors of the rainbow and at the same time can be sold as natural products. Unfortunately this is a huge marketing scheme. What many of these health proponents of vegetables and fruits do not tell us is that these "foods" contain many natural pesticides and anti-nutrients to keep predators from eating them. And because these foods contain many major anti-nutrients, both main stream science and its marketing catches our hopeful attention by only presenting what GOOD can be found in such "foods," while avoiding any mention if it's negative.

Although I can come up with a conspiracy theory bias to suggest a world-wide diabolical truth, I would rather get to the point of this blog by making the reader aware of 10 powerful anti-nutrients that are MOSTLY found in the fruits and vegetables we eat.

1) Lectins:

Lectins have been shown to cause joint pain, rashes, and digestive upset similar to food poisoning. Lectins can penetrate the protective cells lining the digestive tract. They can damage the membranes of the lining which then interferes with nutrient digestion and absorption. Lectins have the natural power to shift the bacterial flora in the gut which may trigger autoimmune reactions Foods containing Lectins - * Beans

* Wheat

* Grains * Legumes

* Dairy

2) Tannins

Tannins are an enzyme inhibitor that prevents adequate digestion. Humans specifically, need the correct enzymes to properly metabolize food and nutrient to our cells. If we ingest enzyme inhibitors like Tannins, frequently, we may begin to setup an unnatural gut environment which can lead to the cause of bloating, diarrhea, constipation and other GI issues. Foods containing Tannins -

* Red Wine

* Black Tea

* Grape juice & Apple juice

* Chocolate

* Legumes

* Fruits

* Nuts

* Grains

3) Oxalates

Oxalates come with their own health dangers. This is a natural pesticide made by plants to deter pests and predators. Did you know that if eaten in the greatest quantities oxalates can cause a human to die. It’s toxic to humans in both acute and chronic amounts. With increased frequency it is hypothesized that Kidney stones are a result of oxalic acid found in these "foods." In Chinese medicine (TCM) the kidneys are the Number One generator of energy. I would be a slight bit concerned of how oxalic acid grabs calcium from the body and forms calcium oxalate. This is what kidney stones are made of.

Foods containing Oxalates -

* Kale

* Cauliflower

* Broccoli

* Spinach

* Chocolate

* Nuts

* Potatoes

* Okra

* Swiss Chard

4) Phytic Acid

Phytic Acid only found in plant "foods," has the power to block high percentages of phosphorus, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc from being absorbed into our bodies. At the same time, phytic acid may raise the risk for problems like anemia and bone loss because it interferes with calcium and iron absorption. Phytic acid is the most well-known anti-nutrient because of its reputation of restraining the digestive enzymes amylase, trypsin and pepsin. Amylase breaks down starch, while both pepsin and trypsin are needed to break down proteins. Foods containing Phytic Acid - * Seeds

* Nuts

* Beans

* Legumes

* Grains

* Potatoes

5) Gluten

Gluten has become notorious for causing gastrointestinal distress. It is one of the most difficult-to digest plant proteins and is also known as an enzyme inhibitor. Today many people have improved their health by removing this poison. Most people damaged by this chemical will experience leaky gut syndrome, celiac’s disease, or other autoimmune diseases, allergic reactions, joint pain, headaches, fatigue and even cognitive problems. Foods containing Gluten -

* Breads

* Cereals

* Baked Goods

* Pasta

* Noodles

* Beer

* Wheat

* Vitamins & Supplements

6 & 7) Chaconine & Solanine

Chaconine and Solanine are glycoalkaloids which exhibit antifeedant (Stops normal feeding behavior), fungicide, and pesticide activities. In a number of case studies glycoalkaloids have demonstrated poisoning with symptoms that include gastrointestinal disturbances and neurological disorders about 8-12 hours after ingestion. Some people state that solanine and chaconine ingestion leads to nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, burning of the throat, headaches and dizziness, joint pain, all forms of arthritis, joint inflammation, calcium deposits in the tissues of joints, and a disrupted thyroid.

Pharmacokinetic studies have shown in humans, that Chaconine accumulated mainly in abdominal fat, adrenals, blood, brain, heart, kidney, liver, lungs, muscle, pancreas, spleen, testis, thymus, and thyroid.

Foods containing Chaconine -

* Potatoes

* Tomatoes

* Blueberries

* Cherries

* Sugar Beats

* Huckleberries

* Okra

* Artichokes

8) Saponins Saponins are known to contribute to leaky gut syndrome, they affect the gastrointestinal lining, and create autoimmune disorders. Saponins are not digested at all by humans and they have the ability to trigger immune responses by entering into the bloodstream via the gastrointestinal lining. Many times Saponins when researched are touted ONLY for their anti-cancer and "beneficial" health boosting affects. This in my opinion is misleading and inaccurate. Foods containing Saponins -

* Beans

* Legumes

* Grains

* Pseudo-Grains (quinoa, amaranth)

* Red Wine

* Soybeans

* Peas

* Chickpeas

* Peanuts

* Lentils

9) Isoflavaones

Isoflavones are found in the highest levels of soybeans and are known for exerting its "estrogen-like effects." Isoflavones are considered endocrine disruptors that might result in harmful changes in hormone levels. This polyphenolic antinutrient may cause hormonal changes and contribute to digestive issues with increased frequency.

Foods containing Isoflavones -

* Soybeans

* Miso

* Edamame * Tofu

* Tempeh

* Soy Milk

10) Trypsin Inhibitors

Trypsin & chymotrypsin are known to possibly cause challenges in young infants, children and anyone with reduced pancreatic function by causing mineral deficiencies. Plant trypsin inhibitors act as insect repellents, because the inhibitors can affect the normal action of the insect gut.

Foods containing Trypsin Inhibitors -

* Grains

* Cereals

* Porridge

* Breads

* Baby foods.
